Costi Caset was a key player for Championship team, Team Asheville, during the Gladiator Polo™ series at the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC). Team Asheville went (2-0) defeating Team Charlotte in the semi-finals and then taking down the undefeated Team Greenville in the Championship.
We caught up with Costi to see what he thought about the Championship, where he is now, and what he is most excited about with the future of Gladiator Polo™! Gladiator Polo™ will be returning to Florida this winter, so stay tuned for more details!
How do you think your team performed during the Gladiator Polo™ Series and then in the Championship?
The team was a lot of fun. Playing with two friends who I have known for a long time I think benefitted us. All three of us get along really well on the field, and off the field. We weren’t afraid to tell each other things and we were just out there having fun. We didn’t have much strategy we just went out there and had fun.
How do you think you played personally, since this was your first time playing in an arena?
I thought I played well and it went better than I expected.! I was a little scared before playing because I didn’t know how it was going to go in my first arena tournament. With my teammates it was a lot easier because they gave me confidence and we just clicked.
What was your favorite moment at TIEC?
Going out there into the big arena and playing in front of the big crowd. The crowd was awesome!
Where are you located right now?
I am in Aiken, SC right now, then I will head to Argentina for a couple of months, and then to Wellington, FL at the end of December. I call Argentina home now.
What are you looking forward to most about Gladiator Polo™ coming to Wellington, FL?
Wellington is like the capital of polo in the States basically, so you get to play in front of a big crowd, but it’s a big polo community. So I think this will be great exposure for Gladiator Polo™ in the polo community.
If you could put together a “Dream Team” for Gladiator Polo™, who would you pick?
Oh, that is a tough one! I think I would stick with my team.
What do you see for the future with Gladiator Polo™?
I would love to see it back at Tryon. I loved the grounds, the arena, and really the whole facility. But I would also like to see it become a big league and be played all around. Playing in Tryon, or in Los Angeles or New York for example. It would be awesome to play in big cities in front of huge crowds. Even taking it to Europe would be pretty sick!
